In memoriam: John Barry

John Barry (*10.2.1929 - †30.1.2011)

Nadešel čas připomenout si další zářivou hvězdu na nebi filmových hudebních skladatelů. Tentokrát přišla řada na uznávaného Johna Barryho. A nikoliv náhodou. V těchto dnech oslavil své 50. narozeniny britský špion s povolením zabíjet James Bond. A jedním z hlavních kouzel filmových dobrodružství tohoto šarmantního agenta je nepochybně hudební stránka. Právě John Barry stojí za slavnými orchestrálními tóny a podílel se na hudebních podkladech k jedenácti z nich (na dvanácti, počítáme-li i Dr. No - slavnou James Bond Theme zkomponoval Monty Norman, ale právě Barry jí dodal známé aranžmá). Krom toho stojí tento jazzový trumpetista za mnoha dalšími krásnými melodiemi a během své činnosti si vysloužil celou řadu ocenění, včetně nejprestižnějších zlatých plešounů (5), hudebních cen Grammy (4) a televizní ceny Emmy (2). Jeho velmi známou melodii z filmu Vzpomínky na Afriku jsme pak mohli slýchávat jako součást reklamy na Mattoni. A zde je celá jeho tvorba, od prvotin televizních seriálů, až po uznávané velkofilmy.

Hudební tvorba Johna Barryho se dotýkala i několika muzikálů a řada vydaných singlů atakovala vysoké pozice britských žebříčků. Za nejúspěšnější spolupráci můžeme v tomto ohledu považovat skladbu A View to Kill od new-wave kapely Duran Duran. Svou poctivou prací jazzových variací velkých orchestrů a romantických klavírů si pak vysloužil čestnou pozici vedle takových jmen, jako je Jerry Goldsmith nebo John Williams. Jeho diskografie ostatně mluví sama za sebe.
